Crystals have been helping us since the dawn of time. They were here before us and they will be here long after us as well.

What is all the fuss about anyways? Sure they sparkle, they come in a multitude of shapes colors and sizes, but they have powerful properties too? Oh that is a load!

Is it though? Why does every ancient culture in our known history record and revere the use of crystals and gemstones in their daily lives? To wear a gemstone around your neck wasn’t just for adornment alone; it was believed to have a physical effect on the body. And fast forward to today... Why do you suppose that there are quartz crystals in our watches and clocks? They are even found in radios, microprocessors and other technological applications all over this little marble we call home. Quartz crystal is abundant on the planet and it has the unique ability of converting mechanical stress into electricity. This is called piezoelectricity. And quartz maintains a precise frequency that helps accurately regulate the mechanics like that of a watch.

Aaron K Metz is a Kelowna born artist that uses crystals in all of his artworks. Whether he is painting  the cosmos or creating an abstract composition, Aaron floods his artwork with crystals before encasing them in resin.  His primary crystal choice is Selenite. Like quartz, it is another grand poobah or powerhouse of the mineral kingdom. Selenite has capabilities of transmuting harmful electromagnetic smog (like wifi) into negative ions. Wait a minute...NEGATIVE IONS?!...that doesn’t sound healthy. Oh but they are! How do you feel when you stand by the ocean? How do you feel when you walk through a forest? You feel pretty good right? That is because you are absorbing negative ions that the trees and ocean waves release. A pristine forest gives off 400 negative ions per cubic centimeter. The selenite that Aaron has sourced gives off 800-1000 negative ions per cubic centimeter! When you absorb this energy, a biochemical reaction occurs and you create more serotonin in your system, thus you are uplifting your mood and enabling you to experience a more harmonic state of being. What a wonderful bonus of being by Aaron’s artwork!

“It is fine art with benefits.” ~ Aaron K Metz
